A Brief Note About Nancy Benjamin
I live in Stratham, NH where I have settled with my husband Jack for the past 31 years. After 26 years in a corporate environment, I promised myself that I would find a passion centered around my lifelong appreciation for the world of arts and crafts and the natural beauty that surrounds us here in New England. As a result, I discovered that the detailed process of lampshade making satisfied the first half of my promise and after many hours of trial and error, I combined two creative techniques and developed a unique line of Embossed and Reverse Painted lampshades. This satisfied the second part of my promise and allowed me to use art as a tool to express my love for the New England landscape.
Most of my Embossed and Reverse Painted lampshades are created on a family property located on Squam Lake - the perfect environment to experience and paint the subject matter of many of my designs.
Many hours are invested in perfecting the techniques used to make each type of lampshade whether an embossed and reverse painted, a silk or a hard-backed lampshade. Any lampshade you purchase will come with a personal commitment to excellence and work of art for you to enjoy for many years.
Organizations and Publications
I am a juried member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen and my lampshades have been featured in Accent Magazine and NH Magazine. In 2002 I created 12 lampshades as a part of the interior design effort for that year's This Old House project. Two
of Shades of Excellence lampshades can be seen in the July/August issue.
